REA'S ELECTRIFICATION DRIVE: MOUs FORGE BRIGHTER FUTURES IN RURAL ZAMBIA

It is a well-known fact that the Rural Electrification Authority-REA whose overall mandate is to provide electricity infrastructure to rural areas using appropriate technologies has since its inception in 2006, implemented a wide range of projects using grid extension, solar home systems and mini-grids.    This was initially aiming to raise rural electricity access from 3-percent to 51-percent by 2030, but the target has now been revised  and is expected to be achieved by 2026.   While questions may arise regarding its achievability, it is crucial to note that REA's mission has received indirect reinforcement through the Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) it has been signing with local authorities nationwide. World Vision Zambia Joins forces for Green Initiative in Chongwe District

In their efforts to support the government's regeneration and re-greening agenda, World Vision Zambia in partnership with Varun Beverages Zambia and PEPSICO has launched a tree planting exercise of 1,000 trees in schools in Chongwe district. Government urges compliance as Data Protection Act approaches implementation

The Ministry of Technology and Science has announced that the Data Protection Act, which was enacted in 2021, will take effect in April 2024.   The Act aims to prevent the unlawful use, collection, processing, transmission, and storage of personal information, thereby safeguarding individuals' right to privacy.   Speaking during the Infratel Media Engagement this morning, Ministry Data Protection Commissioner, Likando Luywa underscored the importance of compliance with the act, stating that the commission's role is not to enforce it in a punitive manner.
