In Zambia especially parts of central and Southern Provinces, farmers are already grappling with the effects of climate change as most of their crops have dried up due to dry spells. It is therefore imperative that the country continues to design and implement interventions that could increase the adaptive capacity of smallholder farmers and measures that would contribute towards mitigation efforts of climate change. AUTHORITIES URGED TO REHABILITATE MALOZILOZI DAM

Dams Are a Vital Part of the National Infrastructure. They have the potential to provide a life-sustaining resource to people if well utilized. Dams can serve several functions at once, including water supply for domestic animals, agricultural, industrial, and community use; flood control; recreation; and clean, renewable energy through hydropower. With the impact of dry spells due to climate change, becoming more severe on agriculture in provinces such as southern and central Zambia, the importance of dam in promoting irrigation farming and reducing dependence on rain-fed agriculture cannot be ignored. However the current state of the Malozilozi dam in Monze district of southern province is raising concerns as it has continued to shrink and dry. It is a mere white elephant and no longer serving its purpose. https://soundcloud.com/user-182587436-416223702/monze-residents-complain-over-the-current-state-of-malozilozi-dam-in-southern-province-zambia
