GOVT CALLS FOR CLOSER INTERFACE BETWEEN THE MEDIA AND PRIVATE SECTOR

The Government has called for a more open and closer interface between the media and the private sector in order to enable the media to report a true picture of the investment undertakings in the country.

Ministry of information and broadcasting services is concerned that too often the media, is not given reasonable room to understand business and various sectors of the economy because of businesses withholding valuable information.

Speaking during the launch of the MTN Zambia Media Club in Lusaka, Permanent Secretary Chanda Kasolo indicated that it is therefore, important that the private sector reinforces their support for the media through partnerships.

Mr.Kasolo commended MTN Zambia for being a consistent investors in the development of the country’s telecommunication sector.

"The Zambian government is encouraged to see a strong partnership between the Media and Private Sector. The role of the Media in reporting on the economic strides of the country cannot be overemphasized .It is through your close partnership with investors such as MTN Zambia ,that we can continue to showcase Zambia as a stable and investor-friendly destination," he said

Mr. Kasolo noted that Media has a crucial role to play in  ensuring accountability within  the private sector by focusing on the track record of business ,highlighting their investment commitment and presence in the community.

And speaking at the same event, MTN Zambia Chief Executive Officer Philip Van Dalsen observed that the media plays a crucial role in the development of the country.

“We are committed to work closely with the media in our bid to provide excellent telecommunications and value added services .At MTN Zambia, we realize that our effort in executing this mandate would be void if it were done without an active collaboration with the media in the country,” He said.

Meanwhile MTN Zambia Communications and CSI Manager, Lisa Mulozi expressed hope that the launch of the MTN Zambia Media Club will strengthen the relationship between the media and MTN Zambia.
