THE PASSING OF THE FOOD SAFETY BILL,TO ENHANCE PUBLIC HEALTH LAWS-ZACA

The Zambia Consumer Association (ZACA) has expressed confidence that the approval of the food safety-bill of 2019 by the cabinet will enhance the existing public health laws which according to them have been docile due to lack of implementation.

The objectives of the food safety-bill of 2019 include providing for the protection of the public against health hazards and fraud in the manufacture, sale and use of food among others.

And ZACA Executive Secretary Juba Sakala says the move is timely considering that there are unscrupulous dealers who have taken advantage of the porous market to bring some counterfeit and expired food product.

Mr. Sakala says the association is delighted and hopes the Stakeholders such as the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) and Consumer Unit Trust will take interest in ensuring that the bill is implemented.
